27 - Guide And Business Secrets For Cheap Airline Tickets
With a little planning it's possible to get your hands on airline tickets to a wide range of destinations without spending a lot of money. Most of us don't have friends in "high" places, so we have to find other ways to purchase cheap airline tickets. Here are some tips:
Keep your eyes open for deals. Sometimes great deals on airline tickets are right in front of your nose, if you're willing to pay attention. Look for ads offering promotional fares, especially from newer airline companies that are trying to build a solid customer base.
Be flexible. Leave your travel plans open-ended so that you can hop on a flight at a moment's notice when a good deal crops up. In most cases Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays offer the cheapest flights. Late night flights, and those that leave very early in the morning, usually offer discounts as well.
Don't be afraid to ask the airline questions and find out if they offer travel packages with discounted airline tickets included. Sometimes you can get a rental car or hotel room at a discount along with your plane tickets. If you never ask, you'll never find the best deals. Airlines don't make a habit of advertising their best deals.
When you go to order tickets, ask if there are cheaper alternatives available. The airline reservations clerk should be able to give you the most up-to-date information. If you're buying tickets online, compare prices on different websites.
If you're flying off-season, ask about standby fares. If you can get on a flight that hasn't been fully booked, you don't have to pay full price for the tickets. However, during the busy season flights tend to be overbooked, rather than under booked, which is why flying standby during certain times of the year is not a practical option.
Buy tickets through a consolidator. Consolidators buy up large amounts of tickets and then sell them at a discount to so that the airline can fill up spaces. This is a good way to take advantage of lower prices without waiting for standby tickets.
Book early. Booking your tickets ahead of time, especially for holiday flights, can nab you a great discount. Airlines like it when they can plan ahead and book flights in advance - the customer is rewarded with lower prices. Also, if you use the same airline for the whole trip you may be eligible for roundtrip or connecting fare discounts.
